Turkey has concluded plans to return the body of a dead pilot who was killed when his war plane was shot down by the Turkish military on the Turkey/Syria border on November 24.
The dead pilot’s body is to be handed over to Russian representatives, Reuters reported.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu disclosed this to journalists on Sunday, just before leaving Istanbul for a meeting with European Union leaders in Brussels, Belgium.
“The pilot who lost his life during the air violation was received by us on the (Syrian) border last night,” he said.
The downing of the plane, which left one pilot dead and the other rescued, has generated tensions between the two countries, with Russia insisting that Turkey must apologise for the incident.
