Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to trust Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo because of the latter’s credibility.
Osinbajo is now the Acting President in the absence of President Buhari, who is away to the United Kingdom on an extended medical leave.
Jibrin also advised Buhari to ignore certain groups of people he said that were in the habit of running to London to seek the Presidents’ approval for decisions already taken by Osinbajo.
In a series of tweets on his Twitter handle, @AbdulAbmJ, on Monday, Jibrin noted that people would begin to seek other ways of tarnishing Osinbajo’s image since they were aware that he had no corruption allegations against him, the Punch reports.
He noted that a new method might be to run to Buhari to give him the impression that the acting President could not be trusted.
However, Jibrin rationalized that such “subterranean” moves were not necessary because any political office holder could take ill.
He also observed that the 1999 Constitution had settled the matter of succession by laying out the procedure to be followed whenever it became necessary.
For instance, Jibrin pointed out that in the event the President passed on, Osinbajo would take over immediately without delay.
He added that if Osinbajo himself passed on while serving, there were provisions on how he would be replaced.
