The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has achieved another milestone in the fight against insurgency with the arrest of a suspected Boko Haram member in Taraba State.
Captain Oni Olubodunde, acting spokesperson of the Brigade, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the arrest followed credible intelligence. The suspect, identified as Gambo Grema, also known as Gamboi, was apprehended on January 26, 2025, in Mai-Hula town, Bali Local Government Area.
During interrogation, Grema reportedly confessed to being part of a Boko Haram syndicate that infiltrated the state to engage in kidnappings for ransom. Their objective, according to him, was to fund terrorist operations and establish a new base in the region. He also admitted to collaborating with members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) to carry out other criminal activities.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their efforts and reaffirmed the army’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region. He called on citizens and security agencies to continue working together to tackle terrorism.
