A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced 24-year-old tricycle rider, Zayyanu Shehu, to 60 days imprisonment for causing obstruction on public highway.
The judge, Mr Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option of N3,000 fine and warned him to be of good behaviour.
Maiwada also ordered the convict to write an undertaken that he would drive with care as well as maintain traffic rules and regulations.
The convict, who resides at Gwarimpa, Abuja, had admitted committing the offences of causing obstruction on public highway, picking and dropping passengers in an unauthorised place, careless and inconsiderate driving.
“ I am new in Abuja and I don’t understand the rules and regulations yet”, Shehu said.
The prosecutor, John Okpa, told the court that a traffic warden arrested him and took him to the Karmo Police Station, on Feb. 18.
According to Okpa, on the same date, the convict obstructed public highway with his tricycle.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 39, and 29 of the Road Traffic Act. (NAN)
