Tributes trail passing of Raquel Welch

The death of American actress, Raquel Welch at 82 on Wednesday has been attracting tributes from the entertainment world and beyond.

Born Jo Raquel Tejada, the actress became a Hollywood sensation in 1966 with a scene of her wearing a deerskin bikini in the film ‘One Million Years B.C’.

She went on to win a Golden Globe in 1975 for her role in ‘The Three Musketeers’ and was named one of the 100 sexiest stars in film history by Empire magazine in 1995.

Welch, who was married four times, also ranked third on Playboy magazine’s list of the 100 sexiest stars of the 20th century.

Since her passing, tributes praising her contribution to the film industry have flooded social media, especially Twitter.

Some netizens also commiserated with her loved ones.

Actress Reese Witherspoon wrote, “So sad to hear about Raquel Welch’s passing. I loved working with her on Legally Blonde. She was elegant , professional and glamorous beyond belief. Simply stunning. May all her angels carry her home. 🕊️ Sending love to her family and her many fans ❤️”

Emmy winner, Danny Deraney, wrote, “Sad to hear the loss of Raquel Welch. One of my favorite moments is when she met Janis Joplin on the Dick Cavett show. Surreal goodness.”
