Court verdict on the petition against elections results in the last gubernatorial poll in Ekiti will be heard tomorrow. The petition had earlier been filed by Prof Kolapo, the candidate representing the People’s Democratic Party. He has continuously challenged the credibility of the results which declared APC’s Kayode Fayemi as the winner of the election on July 14, 2018.
Due to the hearing tomorrow, Ekiti state’s commissioner of police, Mr. Asuquo Amba, has warned thugs and politicians alike to desist from causing riots or ganging up against the opposition.
He stressed that the police will not entertain any illegal gathering or civil unrest after the verdict is made, emphasizing that the “Operation Make Ekiti Safe Squad” are fully prepared to ensure peace reigns in the state.
Through his representative, the commissioner equally explained, “This squad is a Joint Task Force comprising the Police and other sister agencies with about 150 men.
“They are spread all over the state and being overseen by the Police. So, they are on ground to stop any unlawful assembly or stop any protest that could result in violence.
“Whoever loses at the tribunal still has the option of appeal; so, violence is not the best option, for it won’t be tolerated.”
PDP’s Kolapo is optimistic and hopes that the tribunal will give a verdict that would see him become the rightful governor, while Fayemi is removed from office.
