The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has voided the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the March 18 election.
Yusuf was elected on the platform of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
The Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay-led tribunal on Wednesday said that the APC candidate, Nasir Gawuna won the election, after deducting 165,663 votes from NNPP’s figures.
The three-man panel ruled that the ballot papers 165,663, were not stamped or signed and were therefore invalid.
Although Gawuna had congratulated Yusuf after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner, the APC challenged the NNPP’s victory at the tribunal.
The three-man panel ordered withdrawal of the certificate of return which INEC presented to Governor Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.
