Trees uprooted, refuse washed into streets as Kebbi records first rainfall

1 Min Read

Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State, recorded its first rainfall on Sunday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The rain, which came with a heavy windstorm, lasted for 47 minutes and uprooted many trees which were thrown across major streets, while heaps of refuse were washed into major routes and junctions.

It also left many drains filled up.

Meanwhile, a resident, Muhammadu Adamu, has advised farmers against rushing to the farms because of the intensity of the first rain.

“Whoever rushes to plant because the first rainfall was heavy will be disappointed; we must wait a bit for the rainfall to become more regular,” he told NAN on Sunday.

He advised farmers to wait for another major rainfall before planting their crops, especially wheat, maize and millet.
Some farmers were, however, seen clearing their farm lands shortly after the rain stopped. (NAN)
