Two women at a female-only prison in New Jersey, United States have reportedly been impregnated by a transgender fellow inmate with whom they had consensual sex.
A letter sent to the US outlet NJ 105.5 by another inmate claimed that the incidents occurred at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, New Jersey.
The state Department of Corrections confirmed the development.
The correctional facility houses 800 females prisoners, including 27 trans, Mirror UK reports.
In the letter, the inmate said that the first pregnant inmate, who is serving a life sentence, was five months pregnant.
The letter further claimed that the inmates routinely performed sexual acts in public places and had to be separated.
Meanwhile, one Demi Minor has claimed to be the transgender responsible for the pregnancies.
According to the Mirror UK report, Minor revealed this on Justice 4 Demi, a website she helps run from prison.
It claims that she was sentenced to 30 years at the age of 16 for manslaughter, and that she has now been approved for correctional surgery.
In a blog post, a lady claiming to be one of the two impregnated said she had consensual sex with the trans inmate.
Surprisingly I am three months pregnant and I conceived while incarcerated here at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility.
“Although Edna Mahan breeds a ‘pervasive culture of rape’, I WAS NOT RAPED, nor was I forced to do anything that I did not want to do.
“Despite it not being permitted I fell in love and had consensual sex with a woman who is trans. Consensual sex is a prohibited act in Edna Mahan,” she wrote.
New Jersey prisons began housing transgender inmates who identify as women at women’s prisons in 2021 following a lawsuit at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Jersey.
The lawsuit followed claims from a transgender woman who said she was abused at a male prison.
