Over 100 people have reportedly died of a strange sickness within the last ten days in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

This was made known by the Special Assistant to the Local Council Chairman on Media, Sani Kakabori on Channels Television.

According to Sani, an average of ten people mostly above the ages of fifty have been dying on a daily basis for the last ten days, in Jigawa.

A five man committee to investigate the situation has been created to help recommend appropriate actions to curb the increasing death toll as the cause of the mysterious illness is still unknown.

The State Chairman of COVID-19 Task force, Abba Zakari, said the Committee is chaired by Dr Mahmud Abdulwahab with Shehu Mohammad, Yusuf Hakimi, Shehu Sule, and a representative of World Health Organization (WHO) as members.

This comes after over 600 people mysteriously died in the space of one week in Kano, including 20 prominent residents who dropped dead.

Bashir Mohammed, one of the undertakers at the Dandolo Cemetery in Goron Dutse, Dala Local Government Area of Kano State, said: “This is worrisome, we are becoming overwhelmed by what we are seeing here these days because to me, the way people are dying is not ordinary.”

Sheriff Hadi Kabir, the chairman of Fagge Cemetery Committee, called for immediate government intervention to unravel the unusual deaths in Kano.
