As part of its promises so ameliorate the chaotic traffic situation in Lagos, the state government has approved the construction of flyovers in two areas – Ajah roundabout and Abule Egba junction.
The decision to construct the flyovers in these areas reportedly stemmed from the fact that they were high-density traffic zones.
According to the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, in a press statement released over the weekend, the project was part of the administration’s drive to provide succour to the millions of Lagosians who daily experience gnarling traffic jam on the roads.
He stated that the projects will be concluded within 16 months.
In the statement, Ayorinde stressed that the Ajah flyover project will come with the simultaneously rehabilitation of Freedom Road in Lekki.
This, he said, will help to reduce traffic build up at the Ajah round-about and the Lekki-Ikoyi axis in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.
Also, he said the flyover will have a signalized intersection that will be solar powered and help to improve the traffic situation, while the accompanying rehabilitation of Freedom Road will cut back on the time being expended on the road by commuters using the Third Roundabout to access Lekki via Admiralty Way.
Furthermore, the statement said residents of communities around Abule Egba and commuters on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway will be greatly relieved by the construction of the dual-carriage flyover at Abule Egba junction.
The flyover is also expressed to be equipped with a signalized intersection that will help provide seamless link with Oko Oba and other link roads in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Areas of the state.
