Trader catches wife sitting on man’s lap, seeks divorce

3 Min Read

A businessman, Olalekan Akingbade, on Friday pleaded with a Badagry Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his marriage, alleging that he caught his wife sitting on the lap of another man.

Olalekan, 48, who resides at No. 29, Ilogbo Eyekole Str., Igbo-Elerin near Badagry, also told the court that there was no more love in the marriage.

He said that he had become frustrated, due to the extra marital affairs of his wife and public disgrace the woman, named  Funmilayo, had put him to.

“Sometime in the year 2009, I met Funmilayo in her sister’s shop and I proposed to her. I told her I don’t want any child from her because her former husband was alive.

“She had divorced her husband before I started dating her. So she got pregnant for me when her husband that she had four children for died.

“I accepted my fate and rented an apartment in Agbara for her.

“After delivering a baby girl named Oluwatimilehin, she started dating another man.

“One day, when I entered the house I rented for her, I caught her sitting down on her boyfriend’s lap and I left the house for her.

“Since then, she started making life unbearable for me. I lost a job of over N120 million because she seized my phone.

“I went to barb my hair at the saloon and she came there to take my phones away and she refused to give them back to me, knowing the implication of seizing the phones.

“She collected N150, 000 and slapped me twice before releasing my phones.

“There was another day she broke a bottle of wine and threatened to stab me with it.

“My lord, I am fed up with her constant public molestations and threat to life. There is no more love again. Please separate us and let us go our separate ways,” Olalekan pleaded.

In her response, Funmilayo, 43, broke down and started weeping in the courtroom, begging the judge to help her persuade Olalekan not to divorce her, saying that she had nowhere to go.

“My lord, all what my husband said is true but I have learnt my lesson now.

“I promise to be a good wife to him. I have nowhere to go. Since I lost my first husband, Olalekan has been responsible for the upkeep of my four children from my late husband.

“I have learnt my lesson now, if he divorces me now I’m finished my lord,” the business woman pleaded.

The President of the court, Mr Sakirudeen Adekola, adjourned the case until July 30 for peaceful settlement by the families of the couple. (NAN)
