Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos put a corner-kick direct into the net as the Galacticos defeat Valencia to reach the Spanish Super Cup Final.
Kroos’ corner was opportunistically punched in for an own by Valencia goalkeeper Jaume Domenec.
Isco scored Real’s second goal with an expertly timed volley before Luka Modric rounded it all up for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Valencia got a consolation goal late in the match through Daniel Parejo from the penalty spot after a long VAR consultation to ascertain if Sergio Ramos had handled the ball in the 18-yard.
The action continues on Thursday with the second Semi-Final match. Barcelona will take on Atletico Madrid. Should Barca triumph they will set up an El Classico Final.
Until now the Spanish Super Cup featured the League winners against Copa Del Rey winners but the competition has been reformatted with the top two from La Liga and the Copa del Rey finalists playing in a four-team tournament.
Real Madrid were eligible to play in this year’s tournament because Barcelona won the league and finished runner-up in Copa Del Rey last season.
Real Madrid dominated the game with 17 shots and could have increased their margin of victory had Isco’s header not cannoned against the crossbar.
3-1 it ended at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, South Arabia.
