Renowned Nigerian media personality, Tomike Adeoye, found herself at the center of a social media storm recently after making controversial comments regarding online business owners. The incident unfolded in a now-deleted video on her Instagram page, where the mother of two criticized individuals who lose their Instagram accounts with a substantial following and then choose to include in their new bios the number of followers they had on their previous accounts.
Tomike Adeoye’s comments in the video were not well-received, particularly by the online business community. She appeared to belittle those who mentioned their past follower count in their bios, asserting that what they once possessed no longer belonged to them. Her remarks quickly ignited outrage on social media, with business owners and supporters calling her out for insensitivity.
In response to the mounting criticism, Tomike Adeoye took to her Instagram page to issue a public apology to those who were offended by her post. She accompanied her apology with a photo of herself and the following caption:
“Hey family members, I sincerely apologize to everyone most especially business owners who felt bad about the post I made. I wasn’t referring to businesses initially as my friend who made the post I was referring to wasn’t targeting businesses either, and I totally didn’t mean to make anyone feel bad. I personally messaged people who commented last night as I felt different about it when I read their comments about losing their pages, and so I messaged them personally to apologize and took down the post last night. Regardless, it doesn’t justify it. Once again I’m sorry. 🥺💕”
