Popular Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has stirred conversation after revealing she’s open to becoming a second, third, fourth, or even fifth wife.
The 40-year-old made the revelation during the latest episode of her Toke Moments podcast, shared via her YouTube page. In a candid exchange with her guest, fashion designer Banke Kuku, Makinwa questioned the societal expectations placed on independent women and the loneliness that can come with it.
“As independent women, do you think that we have glamourised this notion of being independent?” she asked, to which Kuku replied, “Yeah. It’s tough.”
Makinwa then dropped a personal confession. “I won’t lie, Banke. Let me break it down. Forget the cameras. At this point in my life, if I have the opportunity to be the second, third, fourth or fifth wife, I will take it.”
She explained that despite her success, constantly having to lead and decide everything on her own has become exhausting. “Let me tell you what the biggest thing for me is — I am the boss everywhere, and that could be tiring. You feel like you need someone to lean on. Someone that could decide what is for dinner. Must it be me?”
Toke Makinwa was previously married to fitness entrepreneur Maje Ayida. Their marriage, which began in 2014, ended in divorce in 2017 following a highly publicized scandal.
