Over ten million male and female condoms will be distributed between now and the end of June in ten Togolese towns, including the capital Lome, a media report said on Thursday.
It said that the distribution campaign was launched in Lome by the National Anti-AIDS Committee.
It said in collaboration with the Togolese Association for Social Marketing and Communication for Health and the Project Management Unit of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
“The condoms will be distributed in a targeted manner during the campaign that aims to reinforce communication so that people can change their behaviour in favour of utilisation of condoms during sexual intercourse,’’ it noted.
The coordinator for the National Anti-AIDS Committee’s secretariat, Vincent Pitche, said the national campaign would target youths and urban population.
“We want to encourage the targeted population to change their behaviour and promote use of condoms because this has two benefits.
“It will help to prevent unwanted pregnancies and contamination of HIV/AIDS.
“Our objective is to have an AIDS-free generation by the year 2020,’’ Pitche said. (Xinhua/NAN)
