The Polo shirt is always the best pick when it comes to smart-casual dressing. As the Polo shirt is the T-shirt’s more calm and well-dressed twin, if worn right.
It gives you this subtle “gentleman” look; however, when worn wrong, it can make you look silly. Here are five tips on what to look out for with Polo shirts:
Check the lower back
If you buy an original Polo shirt you would notice it is longer in the back than the front. This allows you to comfortably move without your shirt sticking out of your trouser at some point.
Check the buttons
Once you find a great length, make sure you watch out for the buttons. The polo button is another great great way to spot a good buy. A lot of Polos have pretty deep Vs. However, brands differ. Lacoste, for instance, have two buttons with a placket (the piece of fabric the buttons sit on) that goes down to the nipple line; it should be buttoned. Meanwhile, J.Crew’s style doesn’t go as low (about midway down the chest), and can be worn unbuttoned.
Check the sleeves
Be on the look out for the ribbing on the sleeves. Brands differ with their style here to and you making a choice comes down to your personal taste. Some have no fastening at the end of sleeve, while some hug you like a rubber band. If you work out at the gym tirelessly building those muscles–here is your pay day or pay outfit. Get the polo that shows off those arms. However, moderation is the watch word–not too tight, you don’t want to look like the Incredible Hulk.
