The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s 2025 New Year address, describing it as a “self-serving” speech lacking actionable solutions to Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including unemployment and hunger.
In a statement issued by PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party expressed disappointment, stating that the president’s speech failed to provide a clear roadmap to address critical issues such as high fuel prices, inflation, and the struggling productive sector.
“Nigerians were appalled that, despite calls for decisive action, President Tinubu’s New Year address offered no tangible solutions to the hardships faced by the people,” Ologunagba said. “It underscores the APC administration’s insensitivity to the anguish of Nigerians.”
The PDP also pointed out the absence of plans for sectors like electricity, oil and gas, road infrastructure, and food production. Furthermore, the party criticized the administration’s failure to address unemployment through strategic investments in small and medium-scale enterprises.
According to the PDP, with proper management of resources, Nigeria’s citizens should not be paying more than ₦350 per litre for fuel. The party also called for improved national refining capacities and border policing to stabilize fuel prices.
“President Tinubu’s claim that Nigerians have confidence in his leadership is disconnected from reality, as citizens have lost faith in this administration and are waiting for the next elections to end the APC era,” Ologunagba added.
The PDP urged the president to prioritize governance over politics and focus on policies that alleviate citizens’ suffering. It also called on the APC-led government to show a renewed commitment to the welfare and security of the Nigerian people.
