The Asiwaju Group (TAG) has described the emergence of Sen. Bola Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 presidential candidate as a victory for all members of the party and Nigerians generally.
Ms Oyinkan Okeowo, TAG National Coordinator, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, said the group expected Tinubu’s victory at the APC Special Convention and presidential primary election.
She added that the outcome of the exercise would had been suspicious if Tinubu had not emerged, considering his massive support base across the country.
This, she said, was because Tinubu had impacted the lives of a lot of Nigerians who were ready to support him at the polls at any cost.
Okeowo noted that Tinubu was one Nigerian whose political base cut across the country’s six geo-political zones with friends across the country and in the Diaspora.
She added that Tinubu stood out among other aspirants that contested the APC 2023 presidential ticket as one who had the political war chest to stand Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
She assured that with Tinubu as Nigeria’s president in 2023, a better and greater future is assured for all Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity and political affiliations.
She said that Tinubu as a former two-term governor of Lagos State was tested and trusted, and would do much more as the country’s president.
“Politics is more than just money. It is about having structures, influence, alliance, and impacting people’s lives positively, Tinubu had all this working for him, he invested in people.
“As a mortal being, he may not be a perfect human, but his legacies in Lagos State are there for all to see and that is what successive governments in the state had been building on.
” We dolf our caps for those that stepped down for him and gave support to his emergence, they are indeed democratic patriots, history will surely remember them,” she said.
NAN reports that Tinubu polled a total of 1,271 delegates votes at the APC Special Convention and presidential primary election to emerge as its 2023 presidential candidate.
Rotimi Amaechi, the immediate past Minister of Transportation came second at the primary with 316 votes while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo came third with 235.(NAN)
