Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has lamented the level of disunity among Nigerians.
She said this in a Saturday tweet in response to the controversy generated by her participation in the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France.
Okonjo-Iweala had posted photographs with some participating African Presidents like that of Senegal, Macky Sall; South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa; and Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema.
Reacting to the order of photos Okonjo-Iweala shared of her participation at the event, many netizens, especially supporters of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had claimed the WTO DG shunned President Bola Tinubu, who was also in attendance.
Supporters of President Tinubu responded to Obi’s supporters popularly called ‘Obidients’, slamming them for jumping to conclusions about Okonjo-Iweala’s alleged snubbing of the president.
In her Saturday tweet, the WTO DG said the interactions underlined the deep division among Nigerians.
“Nigerians please relax! Re Paris, Interesting attacks from both sides. Sadly shows the depth of polarisation in our society.
“I post photos in the order received by accompanying staff or colleagues. Reading more into it is unwarranted. Let’s unite to build our country not attack!” Okonjo-Iweala said.
