President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with King Mohammed VI of Morocco following Saturday’s devastating earthquake in the North African nation which claimed more than 1,000 lives.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale said this in a statement.
The 6.8-magnitude earthquake, the biggest to hit the North African country in 120 years, sent people fleeing their homes in terror and disbelief late Friday, Associated Press reported.
According to the presidential statement, Tinubu commiserated with all families who lost loved ones and all those otherwise affected by this tragedy, while wishing a full and swift recovery to those who were injured.

He assured the government and people of Morocco that the heartfelt prayers and thoughts of Nigerians were with them during this difficult moment of tragedy.
“In the face of this adversity, Nigeria will continue to stand in solidarity with Morocco as they recover, rebuild and come out stronger than ever from this unfortunate event,” the Nigerian president was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the Royal Palace said in a statement that Morocco will observe three days of mourning following the devastating occurrence.
Flags will be flown at half-staff on all public buildings, the statement noted.
