Tin-Can Port revenue up in spite of low cargo traffic – Controller

2 Min Read

Comptroller Yusuf Bashar, the Area Controller in Tin-Can Island Customs Command, said on Thursday that training and re-training of Customs personnel had resulted to high revenue in spite of low volume of cargo traffic.

Bashar said this in Lagos while declaring open a training session in preparation for the advance stage of automation of Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System 11 (NICIS 11).

The controller said that the NICIS 11 would upgrade the ICT base of the service and urged participants to take advantage of the training to improve their capacity and competence in discharging their functions.

He said that the course curriculum was carefully articulated to cover vast areas in the 21st Century Customs Operations in line with the World Customs Organisation (WCO) standard.

The controller said that the training became imperative to prepare officers and men of the command for the NICIS II, an advance NICIS I, as a major tool for facilitation of legitimate trade.

Bashar urged participants to remain focused to acquire the needed skills that would aid quick comprehension of the provisions of the NICIS II.

According to him, the training is intended to familiarise participants with different trade transaction documents, how to view transaction documents as well as familiar with the use of the document finder operation.

“The training provides a template for chief examiners to be proactive such that cases of infractions could be detected and appropriate sanctions applied.

“Furthermore, the NICIS II training is aimed at equipping participants with an overview of the NICIS, awareness of NICIS operations, knowledge of how to access the NICIS applications and familiarisation with user profile menus elements.

“The training will also enhance knowledge of user’s ID maintenance, introduction to different NICIS reports and NICIS applications technical know-how,’’ Bashar said. (NAN)
