Three Persons In Court For Attempted Murder In Ebonyi

Three persons, charged with attempted murder over a leadership tussle in Ebonyi community on Wednesday appeared before a Magistrates Court in Abakaliki.

The police arraigned Kelechi Agarama, 35, Simeon Ebonyi, 40 and Ephraim Nwosu, 20, all males, on eight count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Ukoh told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Oct. 28, 2019 at Akpe-Amachi community, Abakaliki Local Government area of Ebonyi.

Ukoh said the suspects among themselves conspired to commit felony: murder and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516A (a) of the Criminal Code Cap. 33. Cool. 1 laws of Ebonyi state in Nigeria, 2009.

According to him, the persons listed to be murdered include: Nkwagua Lazarus, John Nwibo, Paul Igweodo, Chibuike Nwovu and Sunday Nwofoke over a community related crisis resulting from leadership tussle in Akpe-Amechi in Abakaliki.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Fredrick Nwagbala applied for bail of the two suspects, the first and third defendants.

“This is an on-hold charge due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I have put in for bail and court of compliance has been on Nov. 27,” Nwagbala said.

“The attempted murder was as result or community related crisis in Akpe-Amechi in the area,” the Counsel added.

Mr M. Eze, another defence Counsel also pleaded with the court for bail of the second defendant.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Nnenna Onuoha of Court 111, in her ruling said the court would look into the bail application.

Onuoha adjourned the case till Nov. 27.
