Thought of Tinubu succeeding Buhari very scary – US-based professor

2 Min Read
Ochonu

A US-based Nigerian professor, Moses Ochonu, says the thought of APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari is “scary on many levels”.

Ochonu, who is Professor of African History at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, said this in a Facebook post on Sunday.

He was reacting to a comment purportedly made by Tinubu that he was not concerned about the US dollar-naira exchange rate because Nigerians earn in naira.

Ochonu said that Tinubu’s comment betrayed ignorance of basic economics.

According to him, the two leading opposition candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have displayed a better grasp of the enormity of the nation’s economic challenges.

He wrote, “Tinubu’s statement that he’s not worried about the Naira’s exchange rate because Nigerians earn salaries in Naira is as asinine as it is disqualifying.

“Even a basic grasp of O-Level economics would lead to the opposite conclusion, especially given the import-dependent catastrophe APC/Buhari has created in the name of an economy.

“The thought of this ambitious but empty phony becoming president after Buhari is scary on many levels.

“Atiku and Obi are no economic geniuses, but they seem capable of at least coming to terms with our terrestrial economic reality and are not playing a game of denial or inventing an alternative, imaginary economic universe for Nigeria.”
