#ThisIsNigeria: I Intentionally Used Girls Wearing Hijab – Falz

2 Min Read

Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz recently released a music video titled “This is Nigeria”.

The music video went viral both on television, YouTube and also caught the attention of American rapper Diddy.

A Muslim group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) in a statement has given Falz a 7-day ultimatum to take down the video because they find the usage of some Muslim girls in Hijab doing the ‘Shaku Shaku’ dance very offensive.

Speaking on the matter, Falz in an interview said the usage of the hijab-wearing girls dancing was deliberate.

He said: ”It was very intentional. We continue to forget or neglect the innocence of the girl child and because of all the issues that we are having, the kidnappings and the killings especially in the Northern part of the country, the Chibok girls and very more recently the Dapchi girls, It is very disturbing and we don’t often talk about them and I was a bit surprised to hear people say why would you put girls in Hijab to dance Shaku Shaku…common, is there anything wrong with people dancing because they are wearing Hijabs? Is their any law against that?

The muslim group MURIC is yet to state which actions that would be taken against Falz if he doesn’t take down the video in 7 days.

Falz, a qualified lawyer himself, is the son of one of Nigeria’s most-respected legal minds, Femi Falana (SAN), whose voice was also deployed in the hit song.
