Thief Uploads Own Picture On Stolen Phone’s Whatsapp Profile

2 Min Read

A woman in Zimbabwe who stole a phone of her neighbour’s late husband, and uploaded her picture as the display picture has been charged $100 after being caught.

Nobuhle Moyo who went to console the wife of her late neighbours household, ended up stealing the phone whilst parading as a sympathiser to the bereaved wife.

Lynethy Mapenzauswa, the 65-year-old widow, who was too devasted to notice the phone missing at first, later realised that his phone was missing.

Moyo had hid the phone in her underwear and turned off the phone. A search by other guests revealed nothing and Moyo was able to make off with the phone.

However, it appears that 2 weeks later, Moyo changed the Profile picture on the phone from the late husband to her own, not knowing that she should have created a new WhatsApp account. She inadvertently was using the husband’s account and also updated her status to “I’m Happy.”

The daughter of the late husband, Stella Mapenzauswa, however, noticed the odd picture on her late father’s profile and downloaded it and sent it to her mother who confirmed the picture as Moyo’s.

The case was reported to the police, she was arrested, appeared before the Western Commonage magistrate Stephen Ndlovu and pleaded guilty to a theft charge.

She has been fined $100 and told to return the handset.
