The senator representing Kogi West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Dino Melaye, has reacted to insinuations that he went into hiding because of fear of arrest by the police.
Melaye cleared the air on his reason for going into hiding in a tweet via his personal Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon.
The senator recounted the Biblical story of Prophet Elijah who ran away from King Ahab and his wife Jezebel for fear of being killed.
He tweeted, “The Bible record prophet Elijah to be among one of the strongest prophets that lived, but he went to mount Carmel to hide when king Ahab sought him to kill him cos of the way he boldly declared the truth. There is a difference with being scared and being wise.”

The police have laid siege to Melaye’s home in the highbrow Maitama area of Abuja since Friday over alleged attempted culpable homicide.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, the officers deployed to the senator’s house will remain until he surrenders himself to the force over the matter.
Melaye and some suspects were accused of shooting a police officer, Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty in Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi.
Moshood said that the officer allegedly shot by Melaye has yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack.
Some days before the siege on his home, Melaye had accused the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris of plotting to orchestrate his arrest and death by lethal injection on Christmas Day.
