It was an almost perfect first week in the Champions League for sides from England, as Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United all won.
Chelsea were the only club from the Premier League to slip up as they lost 1-2 at home to FC Basel, but fanatix has picked out the five best performances from stars from the English top tier.
Sergio Aguero – Manchester City
The Argentine was on the score-sheet for City as the 2012 Premier League champions eventually overran Czech champions Viktoria Plzen to win 0-3.
Aguero looked sharp for the first time this season up-front and bullied the Plzen defence to not only score for the Citizens, but also set up Edin Dzeko for the club’s first.
Oscar – Chelsea
On what was a woeful night for the Blues the Brazil international continued the 22-year-old’s good work in the Champions League, after also impressing last season.
Oscar has taken the attacking midfielder’s tally to six goals in seven matches now in the competition, after netting the west London club’s only strike.
Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal
Many would have probably doubted Ramsey could turn out to be so important for the Gunners this term after some indifferent performances over the past few years, but the goal the midfielder scored against Olympique Marseille takes the Welshman’s tally to six for the season.
Although Ramsey did give away a penalty, it was a dubious looking “fall” from Andre Ayew and apart from that the 22-year-old bossed the game.
Wayne Rooney – Manchester United
Don’t worry Red Devils fans your star forward is back, as Rooney put the Bayer Leverkusen defence to the sword with two well taken finishes in a 4-2 victory.
Everything creative that United did came through the 27-year-old and thoughts of a transfer request are now a distant memory.
Yaya Toure – Manchester City
The arrival of Fernandinho has allowed Toure to venture further forward and resume the attacking role the Ivorian used to enjoy at Barcelona.
Having already netted twice in the league from well taken free-kicks, the 30-year-old then looped a fine effort into the far corner for City’s second against Plzen.
