The senator representing Kaduna Centra senatorial district, Sen. Shehu Sani, has slammed the Federal Government for saying it was exploring the possibility of having Saudi Arabia establish a refinery in Nigeria.
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) senator made his displeasure known while reacting to comments by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, that the Federal Government was exploring possibilities of having Saudi Arabia build a refinery in the country.
”We are looking at the cooperation across multi-levels, refinery, for example, we are looking for investment in four of our refineries.
“We are looking at the potential for Liquefied Natural Gas investment. We are looking at some straight trade deals in terms of our DSDP programme, to see how they (Saudi Arabia) can participate and bring in products into the country,” Kachikwu told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday.

However, Sani, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, took to Twitter to query why the Federal Government had failed to build new refineries it promised Nigerians.
He said that instead of building new refineries and revamping the old ones to perform at optimal capacity, the Federal Government was unashamedly pointing at the refinery being built by Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote in Lagos.
Sani said, “The refineries promised have not been built, the ones we have are not working and when they are asked, they will point at Dangote refinery; And we are begging Saudi Arabia, an oil producing country like us to come and build refineries in Nigeria. This kin thing tire me.”
