Following the completion of the tenure of Ayo Oritsejafor, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the association has been hit with controversy as regards his replacement.
As a result of the current crisis, the Roman Catholic Church has allegedly threatened to pull out of the organization.
The candidate of TEKAN/ECWA bloc, Jeremiah Gado, who is said to be the preferred candidate of federal government and Catholic church, has allegedly dragged CAN to court for unlawfully denying him an opportunity to participate in the election.
Hence, the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN, has threatened to severe relationship with CAN, unless the crisis is resolved.
It also demanded that adequate opportunity be given to every candidate who has indicated interest in the presidential contest.
The election of a new President to succeed Oritsejafor is scheduled for Tuesday by the 309 members of the CAN, NEC.
