Tension as gunmen attack Emir of Potiskum, kill six in Kaduna

Suspected gunmen have attacked Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram, on Kaduna-Zaria highway, killing six people.

The Herald gathered that the state police command on Wednesday, January 15, confirmed the attack. The command spokesman Yakubu Sabo told newsmen that the incident occurred at about 11:00pm on Tuesday.

It’s not clear as to the degree of injury sustained by the Emir, but Sabo said the monarch was at the Barau Dikko Hospital in Kaduna and was “doing very well.

He said four of those killed were aides of the emir, while two were commutters. Sabo said the commissioner of police, Umar Muri, has visited the emir at the hospital.

The command’s spokesman said investigation into the incident has commenced.

Earlier, The Herald reported that Boko Haram terrorists on Friday, January 10, kidnapped four armed soldiers and two police officers along Damaturu-Maiduguri road.

Military sources who revealed this to TheCable, said the terrorists attacked the security officers in an ambush near Auno village on Damaturu-Maiduguri road.

The insurgents who appeared in military uniforms were said to have mounted a roadblock on the highway with three Hilux vans before taking away the hostages who were returning from a short break.

One of the sources said: “Four military men were abducted in an 18 seater bus while two other policemen were abducted in a Gulf car.”
