Telecoms operators engage in 39,535 porting activities in May – NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Thursday said telecommunications operators carried out 39,535 Mobile Number Portability (MNP) activities in May.

NCC made this known in its “Incoming and Outgoing Porting Activities of Mobile Network Operators Report’’ posted on its website.

It said in the report that 33,773 subscribers ported within the networks in April, showing an increase of 5,762 in May.

NCC said that of the 39,535 porting activities in May; 19,816 were “Incoming Porting Activities”, while 19,719 were “Outgoing Porting Activities”.

 

 

The report revealed that in the outgoing table, 6,567 subscribers moved from MTN Nigeria to other networks through Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in May.

NAN reports that those that left MTN’s network increased by 1,645 as against 4,922 customers that dropped the network in April.

It said that 6,540 customers moved from Airtel Nigeria; showing an increase of 838 subscribers against 5,702 that left the service provider in April.

Also, 4,786 subscribers moved from Globacom Nigeria in May, representing an increase of 512 customers that left the network against 4,274 that left in April.

 

 

It showed that 1,826 customers of Etisalat Nigeria, now 9mobile, ported to other networks within the same period, giving a decrease of 111 that left, when compared with 1,937 users that left in April.

In the incoming table, Etisalat, led by an additional 15,253 customers on its network in May.

Airtel Nigeria came second on the gainers’ list with 2,597 subscribers, 1,245 subscribers moved to MTN Nigeria, while Globacom Nigeria got 721 customers.

NAN reports that the exercise was flagged off on April 22, 2013 by the NCC with the aim of deepening competition in the industry. (NAN)
