An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered that Ismaila Shuaib, 19, be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons for allegedly stabbing Monsuru Fowotade, 25, to death.
The court ruled that Shuaibu be kept behind bars for the next 30 days pending when the case would be filed at the appropriate court.
The accused, a resident of No. 5, Adabare St., Oworonshoki, appeared on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Olajuwon, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She also ordered that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the office of the DPP.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the DPP had advised that the accused should be prosecuted for murder at a higher court.
The prosecutor, Sgt. John Babalola told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 14, at Papa area of Oworonshoki.
He said that the accused and the deceased engaged themselves in a fight on Valentine’s Day.
He added that during the fight, the accused used a broken bottle to stab the deceased on his chest which led to his death.
Babalola said the offences contravened Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 221 prescribes life sentence for offenders.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till April 7 pending receipt of advice from the DPP. (NAN)
