Sexual Assault – A teenager and five other people have been arrested for sexually harassing a mentally challenged woman and abducting her three year old child at Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of Imo state.
Obiuwanne, the mentally challenged woman told police that the 14 year old teenager alongside his gang members lured her to a secluded spot with promise of snacks, food and clothes for her as well as her three year old child.
She further reported that she was taken alongside her son on a motor bike to a bushy area where she was suffered sexual assault at the hands of the teenage rapist and his gang members.
A certain Mr. Martin Okoro, a relative of Obiuwanne confirmed the story stating that he reported the incident to head of a vigilante group in the area.
According to Mr. Martin;
“As soon as my niece was brought back home by a neighbour and narrated her ordeal, I contacted the Commander of Umunze Vigilance Group, Jerry Ibeh, who organised a search for the missing child”
Confirming the incident, the Imo state Police Command revealed that the arrested suspects include; “Emeka Nnorue, 44; Eberechi, 14; Ekene Obodoako, 27 and Chika Obi, 28.”
The Police further revealed through its Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Haruna Muhammed that the sexual assault victim and her child were rescued following intelligence reports received from the vigilante and the victim’s relative.

The police PRO also said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations while also reiterating that the police command is always ready to combat crime in the state.
“The command will continue to serve and protect all citizens with integrity and in accordance with internationally acceptable best practices,” he said.
The Police also informed newsmen that another man who works as a driver in a group home run by his wife was arrested and charged with sexual assault against a former occupant of the home.
