Tragedy struck on Saturday evening in Ayobo area of Lagos as a teacher reportedly killed her only son before killing herself too.
Although her identity is not known yet, reports have it that the woman was fairly comfortable financially and took good care of her son who stays with her at No 1, Adeniran Street, off Ferguson Osagie Road, Ayobo.
Many of the residents appeared shocked about the incident, especially because she seemed happy and her husband was abroad. Hence, the reason for carrying out such an act was beyond their reasoning.
Officers of the Ayobo divisional police station were subsequently called to the scene. Upon examination, one of them explained that it could be a case of double homicide because the woman and the young child still had foamy liquid in their mouths.
Meanwhile, the officers could not evacuate their bodies as residents insisted that some traditional rites known as “Oro” had to be performed on the bodies.
In the community, it is a tradition to perform such rites whenever mysterious incidences occur. Supposedly, the Oro will be asked to reveal the cause of their death and ward off “evil spirits” surrounding it.
The corpses will only be moved after the rites have been completed.
