Taraba APC governorship candidate signs peace accord

3 Min Read

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba, Alhaji Sani Danladi, whose campaign train was attacked recently in Wukari on Monday, signed the peace accord ahead of the general elections.

Danladi said that he was at the Police Headquarters, Jalingo, to sign the peace accord because he believed in the ability of the police to keep their words and the peace agreement as they had done in the past.

He challenged people associating him with violence to come out with any evidence and urged the security agencies in the state to arrest him, if foundwanting at any time.

“I believe there will be justice to manifest in this signing because I believe in the security.

“People are linking me with violence and I urge the security to challenge me if I am found wanting at any point in time.

“If the police fail to do justice as we witnessed in Wukari during my ordeal, it would be very bad,” Danladi said.

He, however, frowned at the action of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Wukari division who, he said, stood aloof during the ordeal of entourage in the hands of bandits last Thursday.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr David Akinremi, at the occasion, assured the candidate that the command would investigate the case in details and ensure justice.

He also promised that whoever was found wanting would be made to face the full wrath of the law, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in question in the case.

Akinremi was represented by the deputy,(administration), DCP Aliyu Tafid.

The police boss said that the peace accord was aimed “to give us assurance that the process of the election would be peaceful.’’

He said: “On our part, we assure that we will dispense our duty without fear or favour.

“Adherence to the rules of the game is the most important thing and we hope that those who have signed this will stick to the tenets of the agreement.

“We will handle the DPO because he cannot claim he was not aware of your coming. We would do what is necessary and those found wanting would be brought to justice.”

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, said the commission was assured that the election would be normal in the state.

According to him, INEC in Taraba is committed to providing a level playing field for everyone in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports the campaign team was attacked on his way to Ibi for campaign.
