A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 52-year-old tailor, Abbas Saminu, in prison custody over alleged defilement of an 11-year-old girl.
Saminu, whose business address was given as Hausawa Mandawari Quarters, Kano, is facing a charge of rape, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending receipt of legal advice on the case by the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Jibril subsequently adjourned the case till Sept. 19 for further mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Pogu Lale, had told the court that one Hasiya Abdullahi of the same address reported the case at Gwale Police Division, Kano, on July 26.
Lale said the complainant claimed that on July 25 at about 12.20p.m, the accused lured her 11-year-old daughter into his shop and forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
“The accused gave the girl N20 after defiling her,” the prosecutor said.
Lale said that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
