S*x scandal: Lagos govt reopens Chrisland Schools

2 Min Read

The Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration in Lagos State has ordered the reopening of Chrisland Schools ahead of the April 25 resumption of primary and secondary schools in the state.

Recall that the Lagos State Ministry of Education closed the schools on Monday, April 18, over alleged sexual escapades involving some students of the Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City (VGC).

The incident was said to have occurred when the students represented their school at the World School Games in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) between March 10 and 13, 2022.

The mother of one of the affected students had taken to Instagram to allege that her daughter was tricked, drugged, raped, videotaped and the recording was circulated on Instagram by some male students of the school.

She further alleged that the school was aware of the circulating video but concealed the information from her family for a month.

The school had, in a letter dated April 14, 2022, and addressed to the girl’s parents, suspended her as a major participant in a “truth-or-dare” game which constituted “improper behaviour and misconduct”.

Announcing the school’s reopening, the Commissioner for Education in Lagos, Folashade Adefisayo, said, “the directive follows a review of the ongoing administrative investigation into the incident.

“Besides, it is to ensure that students are not denied access to learning when the new term begins on Monday, April 25.”

According to her, the state government shut the schools for the safety of staff and students.

“The Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies of the State, in conjunction with the school’s Parent Teachers Association, will be working on scheduled psychosocial support for the students.

“An extensive assessment of the school’s procedure, especially on external trips and excursions, is being made to identify safety gaps and prevent such incidents.”
