It’s no longer news that female pants are now being stolen for supposed ritual purposes in Nigeria. The phenomenon has continued to spread across different geopolitical zones in the country and has even become a trending topic on different social platforms. In fact, a good number of culprits have been remanded but it appears that the act wouldn’t just fade away until drastic measures are put in place.
Now, the Zone 2 Police PRO, Dolapo Badmus, has come out to address the issue. On her Instagram page. She wrote, “What is the in thing about the increase in stealing of underpants?”
While confirming the rumours surrounding the reason for the act, she also stated, “learnt the ones caught in the act always confess to be using it for rituals whereof the owner dies prematurely”.
Then, she cautioned, “henceforth anyone caught stealing pants might not be charged for stealing but attempted murder. This has to stop.”
