A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Soala West, has been reported killed by suspected armed herdsmen.
West, a 2019 gubernatorial aspirant of the party in Rivers State, was abducted from his poultry farm in Aluu Community, Ikwerre LGA on March 12.
A native of Abonema community in Akuku-Toru LGA, he was reportedly shot dead and his body was found on Wednesday at 6 pm.
His body was discovered near a bush along Eleka pipeline, Port Harcourt. Reports say his decomposing body appeared to have a bullet wound and matchet cuts.
His abductors were said to have demanded N30 million as ransom but later reduced it to N2.5 million.
It remains unclear if the ransom was paid before life was snuffed out of the politician.
His younger brother, Emmanuel said, “This is shocking to us. We don’t know why they should kill our brother this way. Our entire family has been thrown into mourning. We just hope that the police will arrest all those involved in the killing of our brother.”
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident.
But The Nation quoted an unnamed police source as saying that the anti-kidnapping squad has arrested a kidnap kingpin in connection with the incident.
