Suspected Fulani Herdsmen re-attack Benue community, 15 feared dead

2 Min Read

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have been reported to have attacked Tombo in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State killing no fewer than 15 persons.

The attack which was reported to have occurred at about 3:00 pm on Thursday left parts of the community razed.

According to a source who spoke to news agency, Vanguard, the suspected Fulani herdsmen shot sporadically making the villagers run and cower for safety.

“As I speak with you the people are shooting sporadically and the villagers are fleeing for fear of being killed.

“The situation in Tombo at the moment is scarery and we are helpless, it’s as if we are in a war situation where the mission of the invaders is to occupy and take over our villages.

“It’s a pathetic situation because corpses are littering the community though one cannot give a specific number of the dead which should not be less than 15 but I know that the casualty figure could be huge because many have been wounded as bullets continue to fly around.

“The people are also burning down houses, farms and food stuff as they move into the villages in what looked like a well coordinated attack.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu when contacted confirmed that about seven persons had been confirmed dead as a result of the attack adding that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Paul Yakadi had taken a team to the community to investigate the cause of the attack and make peace between the community and attackers.
