The Benue State Police Command has arrested over 14 persons linked to last week’s assassination of a prominent Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP leader in the State Chief Atoza Ihindan.
The Police Public Relations’ Officer, ASP Austin Ezeani who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday, said one of those apprehended is reportedly the one who shot and killed Chief Atoza, a woman and her baby in Katsina-Ala local government area of the State.
According to him, the suspect was arrested with bullet wounds on his leg, adding that an AK47 gun loaded with 128 live ammunition was also, found on the suspect.
“Those arrested are assisting the police with useful information in unraveling the perpetrators of these dastardly acts for prosecution. We are also, mopping up arms from those who are not embracing the amnesty program of the State governor”, Ezeani said.
It should be noted that the late Chief Atoza was assassinated at the weekend while inspecting work on ongoing fencing of his plot of land.
