Fraud Suspect Dies In EFCC Custody

1 Min Read

Arowofela Olufemi, a suspect being investigated for fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is dead.

The suspect, who was in the custody of the EFCC in Lagos, reportedly complained of chest pains on Saturday evening and was rushed to a nearby Military Hospital. He died before he could be treated by a doctor.

While the cause of death has still not been determined, his remains were deposited at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital’s mortuary.

Olufemi’s death has been reported at the Onikan Division of the Nigeria Police, Sahara Reporters reported.

He was reportedly arrested by the EFCC after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) complained that he was involved in fraudulent diversion of dividend warrants worth N100 million.

He was arrested while trying to cash stolen dividend warrants, Sahara Reporters reported.

The suspect was said to have been granted administrative bail, but was still in EFCC custody pending the time he will be able to produce a surety to perfect his bail condition.

The suspect’s family has been notified of his death.
