I support restructuring but… – Shekerau

2 Min Read

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, a former Kano state governor has said he is all in for the idea of restructuring Nigeria but on the conditions that there would be political stability in the country.

The former governor while speaking at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) during a book launch stated that his support for the continued call for restructuring will come at the cost that the process will allow for a fair and just leadership in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the book written by Chief Sehinde Awogbofa, the former governor and education minister stated that he will not be a party to the call for implementation of anything which will lead to secession in the country.

Calling on the All Progressive Congress, APC-led government to set up a committee to look into the report of the 2014 conference convoked by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Shekerau said: “I support restructuring but you see, the problem is there are many interpretations about restructuring Nigeria. The Federal Government must sit down and collect all the interpretations for an appropriate body to interpret to Nigerians the meaning of restructuring.

“I know you will agree with me… Unless as nation we identify collectively what we mean by restructuring, we would never get there.

“I support any restructuring, any arrangement that will ensure political stability, which will bring progress, which will bring free, fair and just leadership in Nigeria; that is my idea of restructuring.

“Some people want restructuring that will give them regional government because they want to be super governors in a geo- political zone.”
