The much anticipated summer blockbuster ‘Man of Steel’ is premiering in Lagos and Abuja today, from all indications it is not a movie to overlook. DC studios had to reboot the project to present a better telling of the story and also use it as an engine for upcoming projects. With the Justice League expected to arrive in 2015, DC studios will release a string of solo movies showcasing members of the Justice league in the near future. It was also necessary for them to not leave fans hanging after the success of the Dark Knight Trilogy.
And disappoint they didn’t!DC decided to assemble a killer team to revive the dying franchise. With Christopher Nolan (director of the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy) as producer and Zack Snyder (director of ‘300’ and ‘Watchmen’) as director, they spared no expense in getting this project right. We also have to commend them for assembling a great ensemble cast with heavyweights such as Henry Cavill (Immortals), Amy Adams (Enchanted), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire), Russell Crowe (Legend!) and Kevin Costner(Bigger Legend!!) to name a few.The teaser trailers alone is proof that we should expect a movie of ‘Dark Knight’ proportions, one thing that’s for sure is that this movie will be like none of their previous superman movies and I am excited about that. Whether they take the Marvel route of interlinking various characters is left to be seen but I don’t see that happening since that wasn’t done in the Dark Knight.
Man of Steel introduces a new look Superman for the movie goers and stays true to the original stories which will bring joy to the diehard fans. It also tells us more about the myth that is superman. The movie exhibits more of Superman’s human side and lets the audience have a better connection with Superman/Clark Kent/Kal-El. If you’ve seen ‘300’ or ‘Watchmen’ then expect Zack Snyder to go overboard with some sick special effects and unreal cinematography to make your cinema experience sweeter than Coldstone Ice-cream (no kill us with calories!).
I personally have been waiting for this movie and will definitely go to see it before the weeks
So far the movie has already made $124 million in its first week which is already ringing bells that this might be a big win for DC.
