UEFA Champions League semi-finalists, AS Roma of Italy surprised many Nigerians on Thursday when its verified Twitter handle described the Nigerian senior national football team as “our”.
The Italian giants did this while announcing the 30-man provisional World Cup squad of the Super Eagles.
Along with an infographic of the entire list by playing positions, there was a caption: “The #SuperEagles have announced a provisional 30-man squad for the @FIFAWorldCup – with 7 players due to be cut before the final list is submitted. This immediately sparked insinuations among teeming Super Eagles fans that the account was being managed by a Nigerian.
However, The Herald can report that AS Roma adopted the Super Eagles as the team it would back going into the World Cup.
