The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has said that it could not afford to fire Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, despite overwhelming calls for his sacking by fans.
Peseiro’s sack has been the prevalent call on the lips of many Super Eagles fans after the senior national team drew Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the first two games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, NFF Executive Committee member, Nse Essien said that the football body could not afford to fire the Portuguese tactician because of paucity of funds.
“If we had the money (to pay for compensation), we will be willing to relieve him of his job. We’re not happy.
“Everybody is asking for the sack of the head coach. It’s unfortunate that from a possible six points, we only have two points. We’re in a very precarious situation,” Essien said.
Nigeria currently sit at second-place with two points from as many games, behind South Africa, who lead Group C with three points after one game.
