Despite the furore generation by the recent resignation of Sunday Oliseh as Super Eagles coach, the team moved up one spot in the latest FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings released today.
The Super Eagles are currently 62nd in the world, compared to last month’s 63rd, and equally occupy the 11th position in Africa, compared to 12th in February.
Perhaps the biggest upset is the fact that Cape Verde Islands have upstaged long-time leader Cote d’Ivoire to ascend to the leadership role in African football.
While Cape Verde occupy the 31st position globally, Cote d’Ivoire comes five places behind at 36th and Algeria makes up the third spot, at 37th in the world.
The other top-ranked countries in Africa include: Ghana – 41st, Tunisia – 47th, Senegal – 48th, Egypt – 53rd, Congo DR – 58th, Congo – 59th and Cameroon – 61st.
Globally, the top 13 positions remain unchanged with Belgium, Argentina and Spain leading the pack in that order.
