Sunderland Reject Chinedu Obasi For Lack Of Fitness

2 Min Read

Nigeria International, Chinedu Obasi’s hopes of re-igniting his fledging career may have hit the rocks as Sunderland whom he has been on trials with have rejected him for his lack of fitness.

The 29-year-old ex-Schalke forward has been on trial but has been struggling to prove his fitness after breaking a leg earlier in the year.

The Daily Mail report the free agent, who is a Nigerian international, but has a German passport, is now exploring other options.

Allardyce has been considering options on the Bosman market since taking charge at the Stadium of Light a fortnight ago, with one place available in Sunderland’s squad to bring in a free agent before the transfer window re-opens in January.

Ahead of the Newcastle derby win, Allardyce said: “He has been fraught with a bad injury, which is why he’s not been fixed up with a club yet, but we’d like to see him for this week and perhaps next week.

“But I need someone who has an impact now, not in three weeks’ time, so it will be a difficult task I think.

“But he’s here and if he can show us anything we haven’t got then there may be something we can do.”

The striker endured a miserable time with injuries at Schalke after making just 10 Bundesliga starts in three years, but he had been rated as one of the hottest prospects on the Continent when he was previously with German side Hoffenheim.
