Sultan of Sokoto’s JNI says FG paying lip service to security

Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar-led Jamatu Nasir Islam (JNI) has faulted the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari for paying lip service to security in Nigeria.

JNI in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Dr. Khalid Aliyu, stated that “nowhere is safe in the country now”.

In the statement titled, ‘Press release: Requiem for Zabarmari’, the religious organisation charged the Federal Government to stop mere condemnation of attacks and begin to show concrete actions to combat the attackers.

The group also called on Muslim clerics across the nation to engage in special prayers.

This is just as it commiserated with the people of Borno State over the killing of 43 farmers by insurgents in Zabarmari.

“The wanton killings, acts of banditry, kidnapping for ransom, high rate of unemployment amongst the youths, rape and all forms of terrorisms have now become the ‘New Trend’ in our communities.

“Nigerians have become so much terrified, as nowhere is safe; the home, the farms and the roads. Bandits now rule in many communities, they set rules that must be obeyed.

“We nevertheless, once again call on the Federal Government to rise up to its responsibilities and do well beyond the traditional condemnation, as lip service on security matters should stop. Nigerians are desperately yearning for concrete actions,” JNI said.
